Paul Jorgensen
Paul Jorgensen was born in Tofino, B.C. in 1947 and was raised in Nanaimo, B.C. He graduated from the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in the early 1970’s and has studied at the UBC Summer School of Art, the Penticton Summer School of Art with Toni Onley as instructor, and at the Vancouver School of Art. He has spent some time painting in Mykonos, Greece, and is often inspired by his trips to Italy. It's easy to see why Jorgensen's paintings are so popular. Featuring aerial views of clusters of houses with twisted shapes and hot colours, his work is both dramatic and pleasingly whimsical. Jorgensen’s work has an illustrative quality and he admits to a long-term fondness for illustration.
I like work that involves imagination and technique, and that suggests stories... I hope my paintings give people a good feeling, that they might be a pleasant something on the wall.
