Guy Roy

In 1982 Guy Roy discovered painting by chance and it was love at first sight. He studied at the Atelier Raymond Lachance in Thetford Mines, Quebec, for a period of four years and went on to study at the Moulin Des Arts in Saint-Etienne de Lauzon under Marcel Rousseau. At the same time, he participated in intensive sessions with other painters: Jean-Paul Ladouceur, Maurice Lebon and Nicole Foreman, among others. Through painting, Guy discovered a previously unknown and fascinating world. His new-found passion expresses itself in his paintings: light, vibrant colours, contrasts, and grand canvases characterize his style. Guy is first and foremost a landscape artist and enjoys painting on site in the Amiante and Charlevoix regions in Quebec.

Painting is a constant endeavour. You must overcome your fears, develop your spontaneity, and most of all you must take risks and accept your errors. The most marvellous thing about painting is that you can always start fresh saying: this time, I will succeed. Nevertheless, you must know your limits and understand your deceptions while trying to surpass yourself with every brushstroke.
