Daniele Lemieux

Danièle is a Montréal based artist whose work is acclaimed for its fusion of contemporary composition with a classic painterly style. Her subject matter honours everyday objects with quiet simplicity. Danièle graduated from Dawson College in 1979 with a degree in graphic design and was a respected art director and commercial illustrator for 20 years. Meanwhile, she kept her first love for fine art alive by continuing her studies for many years at the Visual Art Centre in Westmount, Quebec, carving out time to paint between commercial assignments. For the past 10 years, Danièle has devoted herself to painting full time.

My work is a celebration of humanity as represented by the universally familiar. I seek to instill the commonplace with the same reverence given by the 17th century masters to objects denoting wealth and social position. As an antidote to modern day excessiveness, my deliberate choice and treatment of objects is an invitation to revisit the quiet dignity and poetry of the basic form. Objects become icons; valued for usefulness, not decoration; acquired through need, not through want. Stripped of artifice, they are symbolic of the desire to return to that which is true. My artist’s eye edits out the superfluous, seeking harmony and peace. I offer the viewer a place where order replaces chaos, and quiet contemplation leads to an affirmation of self-worth.
