Originally a graphic designer, Darlene Kulig has used her solid understanding of design and composition as an anchor for her painting style. Her "semi-abstracted spirited landscapes" are inspired and influenced by her love for travel. While on adventures, Kulig takes hundreds of photographs which she uses as reference for the authentic details in her work. Whether it be in a portrait, a landscape, or a street scene, Kulig's goal is to reveal the lifeforce of her subject. Currently, Darlene lives in Toronto, ON and is focusing her creative efforts full time on developing a recognizable, signature Kulig Canadian landscape as well as traveling with an eye for her next painting series.
“While Henri Matisse said, ‘I don’t paint things. I only paint the difference between things,’ my goal is to capture ‘the thing about the thing.’ In so doing, I attempt to capture the sentient quality of all forms around us. I hope that my work is both relatable and familiar to my audience.”
